Men, women, children, legally-adults, machines with some bio-matter in their brains who are sometimes treated as humanoid depending on the demands of the plot, This time All The Rage is all about human interaction with technology and the theme really seems to have sparked our imaginations. 'Man and Machine', one way or another, has turned wonderfully into an interesting analysis of WOman and machine, what with Ralph Harrington's fascinating piece about the forgotten legacy of typewriters (plus, as ever, splendid photos, where DOES he get them?) and Sylvia Bellini's typically enchanting article on housewife technologies. Emma Russell is back, too, with her inimitable meld of creative humour and honest insights - this time pondering our almost mystical attachment to gadgets. Oh and we have a new contributor this month! Make Mo Ali feel welcome, but not via any weird 'induction ceremonies' like in that book I read in primary school by mistake that was almost certainly not actually aimed at kids. A fantastic writer and illustrator, Mo is here to share valuable instructions on making your own flying machine, so he's the one to write to if for some reason yours doesn't work. Meanwhile your Editor has used this theme as an excuse to get a lot of gripes about the internet off his/her/its/my chest. If you can't be bothered with all 3,000 words, here's the summary: "It is baffling to me that something with such potential for discovery has become an instrument for connecting people who already know each other, sharing ideas they already agree with." I mean, really! If anyone's going to be connecting people who already know each other with ideas they already agree with, it's All The Rage! So... ATR or the internet? There isn't room for both of us in this town, but I'm confident we have the beat of it. The cover illustration and charming picture essay in this issue is the work of Mr Greg Stekelman, official friend of ATR and founder of popular website themanwhofellasleep.com (as well as the Tube Gossip column in Time Out and loads of other stuff.) The special discount code is: http://www.alltherage.org.uk/alltherage-2009-04.pdf Redeem and claim your one free issue by texting the code above to the internet before April 30th. Happy spring! ATR xxxx PS: New thing: I'm attaching the cover as a pic for you. Let me know if you approve or disapprove of this, or don't care enough to even let me know. PPS. I don't know if you've ever used one of the many equally fine internet search engines to look up All The Rage but - and I hope you're sitting down - it appears that almost all evidence of us has been erased from the web by the thought police. We must not let 'Them' win! If you've enjoyed the magazine, and remember it is free and people put a ton of work into it, then don't forget that a simple link from your blog or website will do the world of good. PPPS. All those who think ATR is still a fashion magazine haven't read it for two years! And, presumably, aren't reading this now. Still, tell your friends.
